As a 5’1″ female cyclist, I have always had a tough time finding a bike that would fit me. About ten years ago, I was sold a Cannondale that was too small. My ride improved when I got a new Pinarello in 2010, but having a short torso I always felt like I was reaching way far out for the brakes and handlebars.

This summer, my husband and I decided it was time for a new ride. As members at Castle Hill Fitness, we had to look no further than Jerry Gehrlich, a Steve Hogg Certified bike fitter. Jerry met with me to discuss my needs in a new road bike, and we looked at some non-custom options before deciding on a custom Seven. With the help of Chris Balser at Bicycle Fit Guru, we designed and ordered my new ride. Steve Hogg came into the process to consult as Chris and Jerry worked the geometry and specs. I couldn’t believe that I had *three* of the world’s most accomplished bike fitters helping me! They stayed with us through the entire process, and even helped make decisions on things like wheel size, working with the folks at Seven. To top it off, my husband and I visited Sydney in September and got to meet Steve in person at his shop. At the time, we were all eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new bike.

When my ride, “Pinky” arrived, she was delivered to Castle Hill, and put together by expert mechanic Gordon Yang. Gordon and Jerry met with me to make tweaks to the fit so I could start riding Pinky right away. The very first time I got on the bike – it was a whole new experience. I had no idea a road bike could be that comfortable. I’m going to take some more spins before Jerry and I meet for a full-on bike fit session – but I’m already seeing the benefits.

I’m so lucky to have had a great team of people involved in my bike selection process. Thanks to Steve, Jerry, Chris and Gordon for the commitment to making my ride sing.

My husband Dave and I cycle all all over the world (Pinky has S&S couplers and her own carrying case). We’re looking forward to some great rides in 2017 and beyond!

G’day Gretchen,

I’m happy to have been a small part of the process and even happier that you are delighted with ‘Pinky’. I wish both you and Dave the very best for your future cycling adventures.

  1. Hi Gretchen,

Good to ready Pinky turned out to be a great machine. Initially, I was nervous about having too many cooks in the kitchen to get the recipe right. Your experience serves as a great new template for combining input from passionate cycling geeks to provide a positive outcome. Looking forward to future Pinky adventures.
