COMFORT + EFFICIENCY = PERFORMANCE
Andy Brooke Bike Fitting

Andy Brooke has worked as a bike fitter since 2010. His love of learning has seen him attend 16 different bike fitting courses around the world, and he’s even gone back to university to study for a Master’s degree in sports science and a PhD in cycling biomechanics, which he hopes to complete soon.

During his career, he’s worked with Olympic and Paralympic cyclists and triathletes from the UK and the US, as well as thousands of clients ranging from hobbyists to high-level amateur racers. His work has taken him from the UK to the US and now to Valencia, Spain, where he continues his role as a fitter.

Keen to raise standards across the bike fit industry, in 2014 he established the International Bike Fitting Institute (IBFI). Today, the organization has hundreds of members globally, and helps to recognise the best-trained fitters and set education standards across the world.

As part of his work with the IBFI, Andy helped to create a common syllabus that is used by bike fit educators around the world. He has also organized and presented at international conferences and delivered education courses in Europe and the US.

When he’s not fitting, Andy works as a consultant for bike fit technology companies and education providers. In his spare time, he rides road and mountain bikes in the hills around Valencia, follows football, basketball and NFL, and cooking outdoors on one of his many barbeques.

I had been interested in Steve’s approach to bike fit for almost a decade before I finally had the chance to train with him in 2022.

I’d read about his interventions via his blog, but I wasn’t sure I fully understood the true potential they offered to cyclists until Steve travelled to Europe and ran a short demonstration at my bike fit studio in England in 2018.
As a fan of traditional education and academia, my approach to bike fitting had always been scientific, but Steve’s interventions were completely different to anything I had seen or read about before. It would have been easy to be sceptical, but having them demonstrated on a tricky to fit client as well as myself and my wife, I couldn’t deny their efficacy.

In 2019, I organised a bike fit conference in Thailand as part of my role as president of the International Bike Fitting Institute, and invited Steve to be the keynote speaker. He also ran a workshop to demonstrate some in-depth interventions and pass on some simple tips to delegates. Seeing more of the techniques Steve uses during his fits and understanding the level of detail he goes into with clients made me even more determined to become a Steve Hogg accredited fitter.

Having been delayed by the pandemic and a period of working in the United States, in 2022 I finally travelled to Australia to learn how to do the amazing things I’d seen Steve demonstrate.

The training was intense, and learning the art of muscle testing really pushed me, but I loved the challenge and came back to Europe proud of the skills I’d developed.

Since I trained with Steve, my wife and I have moved from the UK to the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain. I’m looking forward to putting what I learned into practice with local riders, as well as welcoming cyclists who are travelling to the region to take advantage of our stunning cycling routes.
