Hi Jerry,

After following Steve Hogg’s website for years and dreaming of a fit in Australia I of course chose you for two reasons; one, you’re on North America and easier to reach for me, and two, your kinesiology background and years fitting riders made you the next best thing to a trip to Oz.

Our day together was just the best possible experience I could imagine. Your thoroughness to details, friendliness, interest in me on a number of levels, and relentless drive toward my perfect fit on the bike provided me a wonderful experience. I’ve also enjoyed our follow-up conversations and tried to honestly implement everything you’ve detailed for me to do to ride stronger with more efficiency.

So riding now is interesting. I’ll try to explain below:

When you said use your glutes more my vision of this is rotating my pelvis counterclockwise/forward. I didn’t notice anything at first until about 2-3 weeks ago. I had one ride back into a headwind where I relaxed on the hoods and rode. After a short while I notice something in my left leg that was good. I felt as though I was on top of the pedal stroke not dragging the left over the top which may be part of what I can’t describe in my left knee. After that ride I lost it and didn’t find it again until last week. It feels like both legs working in unison each pulling its own weight. Now I am ‘finding’ it each ride more quickly for longer. Of course this has other affects; my lower back feels flatter with less anxiety, I reach the hoods easier, my left quad and calf feel more aligned like a piston, I think I sit squarer on the seat, and finally I think this forward pelvis position has changed my feet and the angle they contact the pedals.

I continue with the exercises and stretching as much as time and life allows. I think the postural exercises have allowed me to position and hold my pelvis stable where I can just pedal. I think I’m able to hold good posture off the bike longer and I notice sooner once I’ve lost it. It’s tough.

I wouldn’t change a thing from what you did in June.

John

  1. Thanks John,

Glad to hear things have come together with your position. Your patience with the changes, diligence with the off the bike work, Steve’s unique protocols and curiosity on my end all came together. Keep riding and stay on top of that functional stuff.

    Cheers,
    Jerry
